Vinnie Beau Coal came with his family to see his mom, Francie and visit with us.
He was such a busy boy that it was hard to get many hugs out of him!
Annie, Kayla and Jeannie think he is very handsome!

Hi Mom! Can you see how much I have grown? Vinnie gives his mom, Francie Pants,
a kiss hello!
Jeannie wants to get another soccer game going!
Kayla and Annie are checking out Vinnie Beau Coal while Francie gives him a big kiss!

Pups are six weeks old!
We had photos of everyone who visited us this weekend, but have lost them.
All the pups are healthy and happy despite the fire. That was quite an eventful night!
We rescued all eight puppies and they were checked immediately by our wonderful veterinarian, Dr. Cliff Heidinger and his staff.
We will treasure these little babies for the next few days and watch them play in their new surroundings before they go to their new homes and families.
We all feel very good about their futures.

Yes, the pups are growing! Ms. Black and White's family cannot believe how big she is getting and how smart she is.
She actually was hugging her new mom! It is like she knows who is going to be her number one person.
Ms. Black and White thinks this purse could be hiding some biscuits or maybe a special toy for her!
Sunday, June 21, 2009 -- Pups are five weeks old
How lucky can we get? Yes, they wake us up at 5:30-5:45 am everyday, but having 8 little puppies telling you that they love you is pretty cool. We are soaking up the puppy kisses. Three more weeks and they are going home to their new homes!
Kayla Copacabana and Ruby Tuesday, who is the Great, Great Grandma, along with Darlin' Clementiine are supervising pups learning how to climb the stairs outside our front door.
Ms. Pink has it figured out! She is so smart!
Mr. Blue got down ahead
of her and
Ms. Purple is next.
They are in a fenced-in area full of grass and things to explore.
Ruby Tuesday and Kayla Copacabana are showing Mr. Blue around their new fenced-in yard.
Now if the sun shines more, we can have more outside time to play!
All the outside air makes a puppy thirsty! Francie helps out.
Mr. Yellow, Mr. Red and Mr. Green stop for a drink before the next game begins.
When we can't go outside, let's just get an inside soccer game going!
Mr. Yellow, Ms. Black&White, and Mr. Blue love this game!
If you don't feel like soccer, Ron Weasley, our cat will entertain the troops.
Ms. Orange and Ms. Pink know he is a gentle cat. He actually loves dogs!!!
Ron W. gives Mr. Green a "cat scan" for the day.

Pups have moved downstairs. They are getting lots of exercise running around in the kitchen with Annie.
They get to have "recess" in our kitchen.
When the days are warmer, we will let them play outside.
Ms. Pink is ready to play with Annie.
Annie says "Let's play!"
She is only a puppy herself, so this is cool!
The little puppies gang up on her and climb all over her. She is very gentle at everything she does with them. We are watching the whole time!
Ms. Purple does what Annie used to do to her own mom.
The pups are playing rough, but Annie is very patient with them, just like Kayla was with her.
Ms. Purple and Mr. Red have found one of the toys that Annie brought to them.
Looks like the other pups are coming over to get in the game!

Francie's pups are 4 weeks old! Wow, that went fast! Now the fun begins.
We are feeding them a tasty combination of baby cereal and cottage cheese. They don't leave the dish until the last piece is gone. They are so busy eating that you can only hear the little slurping sounds.
We have them running back and forth across the kitchen to us whistling and clapping our hands.
They run to us and get picked up and kissed.
Well, Hello Ms. Pink! You came right to me when I got to your house!
Ms. Pink is Perfect for my family! They are all going to love her!
Mr. Blue's new family can't wait to take him home!
He said he wants to be on your Facebook right now!
We love Mr. Red! We have a cool name picked out for him too!
Mr. Red may be going to a few soccer games and walks around town.

Mom, can he sleep in my bed? Mr. Red is learning to run to his new family when they whistle.

This is really going to be tough! Three kids to choose one dog. Mr. Yellow won!!!!!

You are so cute! How can we choose?
Maybe we'll call Dad and get both!

Ms. Black & White was chosen and has her new family.
She's ready for some fun!
I wish I could take this one too! She is so relaxed.

Ms. Purple and Mr. Green found their new families tonight. It is a happy time for all of us.
Choosing a new puppy is sooooooooo hard!
They are all so cute!
Ms. Purple is happy in the arms of her new "mom" and "dad".
Sometimes you have to get
that "special" kiss on the cheek
to tell you it is the one you want!
Mr. Green is practicing on his new mom.
Mr. Green has his new family!
Puppies ate baby cereal for the first time tonight. Francie wants them to get big and strong, so she is telling us to start giving them something extra. She still lets them drink, but not for long.
Francie and Jeannie found out that whatever cereal the pups leave behind is available! Not a bad deal.
Mr. Blue is helping with the clean up while Ms. Orange is getting a drink from Francie.

You are the one I am going to love forever!
Such a little lady! She's a poser. We have to find a better hat.
Sunday, June 7, 2009
Puppies are three weeks old today! They are still in their whelping box, which is still in our bedroom.
They barked and growled at each other ALL night last night!
Francie now gets in to feed them and then gets OUT and gets her sleep on the outside of the box.
When she is out of the box the puppies "usually" quiet down.
Thursday, June 4, 2009
Francie's pups have Tripled their weight! We weighed each one last night.
They were full of milk and very sleepy, so it was easy to do. The digital scale helps.
The eyes are ALL open!
Now they are standing, walking around and kind of falling down sometimes, but definitely looking like little dogs now!
They even howl sometimes!
That big white puppy is Annie!
She was allowed to get in and snuggle while Francie fed the pups.
We added taller sides to the box after this photo was taken.
It was a good thing, because as usual, we have some puppies that are trying to escape!
Sunday, May 31, 2009
Puppies are two weeks old today! Francie is much more relaxed with everyone.
She even lets the other dogs look at her puppies.
Their eyes are starting to open.
They are trying to walk.
Annie still wants to say "Hello" when we have visitors.
She just charms
herself right in.
Vinnie and Cooper are curious.
This puppy is totally relaxed!
Thursday, May 29, 2009
Francie has been waking us up everyday between 4:30 and 5:00 am.
Her pups are growing and demanding more from her, so she is very hungry!
She runs downstairs with the rest of the dogs and goes outside briefly.
She is always the first one back and is getting pretty demanding herself.
She barks until we give her a dish of food.
Then she stays downstairs for a little bit before going back upstairs to "the kids".
This morning we saw her curled up next to the whelping box, while her pups were asleep on the inside.
Sunday May 24, 2009 One week old and we have visitors.
"I've never seen Labradors so small! They are soooooo soft! This one is licking my hand."
It is hard to imagine
that this tiny puppy
will grow up to be
about 75-85 pounds.
Annie was a little worried about those babies. She kept leaning away
from them. Maybe if she could just get closer and figure out what these things are!
Annie is only 4 months old, but she looks and feels like a "big dog" next to the pups.
Annie is still a puppy herself. She needs some reassurance too.
After the puppies left the room and went back upstairs, Clementine and Vinnie offered our friends a stuffed animal and a favorite toy.

Pups were born six days ago and there is still no sleep for the humans. Francie lays down in her whelping box and the little puppies get themselves hooked up to her, drink and fall asleep---most of them!
There are at least two, that even while they are drinking, make all kinds of noise that keeps us wondering if they are "ok". When the lights go on, we see everything looks fine, so we try to go back to sleep again. (and again and again)
Francie brings a little stuffed animal back every time she comes upstairs. Those of you who met our dogs know that they love stuffed animals! She must be training them early.
Wednesday, May 20, 2009
Pups are 4 days old and gaining weight. Francie and the pups sleep upstairs in their whelping box, complete with "pig rail", to keep them safe. This helps Francie spread out to the edges, but no pups can be hurt by getting caught underneath. We are constantly checking them day and night.
Sunday, May 17, 2009
Francie delivers eight healthy puppies.
We wanted to make sure all the puppies were fed, so we put four in a box to stay warm, while the other four got to drink.
We ended up with 4 boys, 4 girls--all black.
They started at 10:24am and finished at 9:05pm.
May 17, 2009
5:45 am Francie decided the downstairs bathroom would be the best and most private place to have her pups, so we spent all day Sunday with her.
We had a nice new box with towels inside to keep her pups warm.
After she tried to climb inside of it, we decided to put all her babies next to her and they were able to drink and be warm with their mom.
This first pup was born at 10:24am.
Her last pup was born at 9:05pm that night.
We were half way finished at this point.
The pups figured they needed a hot drink.
Words cannot express how grateful we are
to our wonderful veterinarian.
Dr. Cliff Heidinger and his wife, Karen, met us at the animal hospital Sunday night because of their love of animals and genuine concern for Francie.
We know we have a very special doctor who truly cares about animals.
Dr. and Mrs. Heidinger gently checking Francie. Dr. Heidinger took x-rays of Francie and could see that she still had two puppies to be born.
He was correct and we delivered two strong males after we got back home.

May 16, 2009 11:00 pm the night before the pups were born, Francie decided to get onto one of the couches. She felt it would be a nice cozy spot to have her pups.
We had to get her off and into her whelping box upstairs for the night.
Francie and her sister, Kayla were discussing the new litter.
They used to like to sit by the window in the morning and just "talk".
Now Francie has her pups and is busy taking care of them. She will have to miss those morning "talks" for a few weeks until the pups can go outside to play.
May 1, 2009
With just about 2 weeks to go, it was getting a little harder for Francie
to get on the chair these days!

Lots of visitors! We did lots of "dress-up". Labradors love people and LOVE getting dress up. We have hats and outfits for many photo shoots! You can see some of our outfits at the top of this page.
Puppies are starting to ease into eating puppy chow. They have a special combination of a little puppy chow, mixed with hard boiled egg and baby cereal. Sounds yucky, but they make short work of it! Gradually, we will work in more and more puppy chow. They are eating out of their own bowls (most of the time). Getting nine dishes to the floor requires FAST hands and lots of them!
