2:00 am Annie woke us up. She was panting and very nervous.
3:00 am I went outside with Annie. She is now on a leash for the walk around the yard.
She is full of milk and is nervously licking everything.
I can feel lots of kicking inside her. They are moving around like a big party!
Annie is anxious and pacing the bedroom, not sure what she wants to do. She is panting a lot.
3:05 am I had to let all the other Labradors out, so Annie went back on the leash and we did
another round of the yard with the flashlight. There is a half moon and lots of bright stars up there.
Before we went outside, Kayla, Annie’s mom, grabbed a stuffed animal and put it in the whelping box.
Sammy Sweetheart ran around with Gracie Clementine while I was with Annie. They know something is up.
Everyone is very excited! Kayla and Francie have done this before, so they are checking on Annie.
4:00 am We woke up to the sound of Annie inside the whelping box! She was gathering up the sheets I left in there and trying to make her “nest”. She will be doing a lot more of that before the day is up.
5:45 am Annie was whining and pacing, so we put on her leash and we all went outside for another walk around the yard.
There is still a half moon in the sky. It’s pretty cold out there. But now I am awake and ready to help Annie. There’s no going back to bed now…..
“Holmes”, our young black and white cat brought a live mouse in the cat door! Fortunately, I saw him coming with his prize and intercepted him with a paper towel to grab the mouse from him. I got lucky! The mouse just got one more chance. I tossed him beyond the rock wall into the bushes. Whew!
3:07 pm Annie has been making her “nest” in the bathroom. She bunches up the bathroom rug and pushes it under her tummy. She also has been using one of the softer dog beds and extra pillows for herself.
She has been very anxious all day and tells me she HAS to go outside. So, we have lost count on the outside trips. I am getting lots of exercise before we even start! She has tried to make a nest in the long grass up on the hill and tried to get herself under the deck. Good thing we have her on a leash. It would be really tough to get her out.
We were really hoping to see puppies by now. I have a feeling she is going to keep us all up all night long. Keep checking!
