One Week Old

by Margaret on May 20, 2012

All of Annie’s pups are gaining weight. We see their faces are going from all pink to a soft shade of tan.

Puppy Pile Up May 19, 2012

Their noses are turning black. The little pads on their feet are turning black also.

Nose is starting to get black.

Annie is still the only one allowed to be in the whelping box.

She feels more comfortable with leaving them to go get a drink of water or eat her dinner with the rest of the dogs in the kitchen.

Annie’s Puppies Are Doing Great!

by Margaret on May 17, 2012

Annie with all her babies. The little girl is facing tummy up!

We have been weighing the pups and each one is gaining weight! It must be all that good milk from Annie. They all find somewhere to drink from. Some of the pups dive underneath and some turn upside down.

The big dogs are still trying to get to the babies to clean then and smell them, but Annie is one tough mom. She tells them all to go away. Gracie and Sammy are very careful when they come into the bedroom. They stay as far away from the whelping box as possible because they know Annie will bark at them.

Francie and Kayla keep pushing the limit. They stick their heads in and try kissing babies every time Annie goes outside. It will all even out pretty soon. Annie will figure out that she has four Labrador babysitters who are ready to give her a break and also protect her pups.

Francie Pants Wants a Puppy

by Margaret on May 14, 2012

More photos tonight. We promise!

Annie has been an incredible mom! She is still telling all the other dogs to stay away from her pups, but she is not as upset as she was the first 3 days.

Francie Pants ran in to clean Annie’s puppies

while Annie was outside.

She was quickly told to “get out” when Annie found her in the whelping box.

Annie loves her Aunt Francie Pants, but she does not want any of the other dogs in with her puppies just yet.

Happy Mother’s Day Annie

by Margaret on May 14, 2012

Annie and her new pups.

Annie has been such an amazing new mom!

She has all six of her little darlings lined up either in front of her or in one corner of her whelping box.

They are all gaining weight! Look at those little fat bellies. Annie is feeding and cleaning all day long.

One day old and so tiny.

Puppy Pile Up. They do this!

Fieldtrip!

by Margaret on May 14, 2012

Field Trip From Two Weeks Ago

We took a field trip to the vet 2 weeks ago. Everyone went, so there were two cars involved.

Annie and Kayla want out of the car. Francie is in the back.

Kayla, Francie and Annie were in one car.

Sammy and Gracie were in the other car.

Kayla, Francie and Annie were very relaxed, but they did not want to wait in the car.

Gracie Clementine in the backseat.

Sammy and Gracie were wondering what we would be doing.

Annie is Busy With Her Puppies

by Margaret on May 12, 2012

5 boys, 1 girl born May 12, 2012.

Annie finished with six puppies.

She is cleaning and feeding her puppies.

We know they all will have wonderful homes.

The "Peanut Gallery" watching from the hallway.

How small they are! This little one is between her mom's back feet.

Kayla, Francie, Sammy, and Gracie were kept waiting in the hall.

They have to let Annie get to know her puppies before they get to kiss them. Annie will tell them when it is ok to get close.

Gracie waited so patiently.

Gracie was determined to stick it out while she waited for Annie. She is still laying near that doorway. Annie is still saying “no way”.

She used to fit through this small opening when she was a puppy herself. Now only her head fits!

6:15 am boy, 15 oz.

6:36 am boy 15 oz.

7:16 am girl     14 1/4 oz.

8:22 am boy 12 5/8 oz

8:31 am boy 13 oz.

8:42 am boy 12 3/8 oz.       Annie is doing amazing.  They are all drinking!

Annie is gearing up!

by Margaret on May 11, 2012

2:00 am Annie woke us up. She was panting and very nervous.

3:00 am I went outside with Annie. She is now on a leash for the walk around the yard.

She is full of milk and is nervously licking everything.

I can feel lots of kicking inside her. They are moving around like a big party!

Annie is anxious and pacing the bedroom, not sure what she wants to do. She is panting a lot.

3:05 am I had to let all the other Labradors out, so Annie went back on the leash and we did

another round of the yard with the flashlight. There is a half moon and lots of bright stars up there.

Before we went outside, Kayla, Annie’s mom, grabbed a stuffed animal and put it in the whelping box.

Sammy Sweetheart ran around with Gracie Clementine while I was with Annie. They know something is up.

Everyone is very excited! Kayla and Francie have done this before, so they are checking on Annie.

4:00 am We woke up to the sound of Annie inside the whelping box! She was gathering up the sheets I left in there and trying to make her “nest”. She will be doing a lot more of that before the day is up.

5:45 am Annie was whining and pacing, so we put on her leash and we all went outside for another walk around the yard.

There is still a half moon in the sky. It’s pretty cold out there. But now I am awake and ready to help Annie. There’s no going back to bed now…..

“Holmes”, our young black and white cat brought a live mouse in the cat door! Fortunately, I saw him coming with his prize and intercepted him with a paper towel to grab the mouse from him. I got lucky! The mouse just got one more chance. I tossed him beyond the rock wall into the bushes. Whew!

3:07 pm Annie has been making her “nest” in the bathroom. She bunches up the bathroom rug and pushes it under her tummy. She also has been using one of the softer dog beds and extra pillows for herself.

She has been very anxious all day and tells me she HAS to go outside. So, we have lost count on the outside trips. I am getting lots of exercise before we even start! She has tried to make a nest in the long grass up on the hill and tried to get herself under the deck. Good thing we have her on a leash. It would be really tough to get her out.

We were really hoping to see puppies by now. I have a feeling she is going to keep us all up all night long. Keep checking!

Annie relaxing with Kayla

by Margaret on May 10, 2012

Annie relaxing with her mom, Kayla. 5-10-12.

Annie went outside this morning for her walk around the yard. She is moving much slower, so we made sure she came back in the house.

Kayla is carrying stuffed animals around in her mouth, trying to give them to us. We also saw Kayla and Francie Pants inside the whelping box.

Annie is going to have a lot of “Babysitters” for her pups!

Sammy Sweetheart and Gracie Clementine want to be in charge of Record Keeping when we start having puppies.
